New Zealand Virtual Assistant Conference
28-29 August 2012, Wellington
I was delighted to be awarded the title ‘Virtual Assistant of the Year 2012’ while attending the inaugural New Zealand Virtual Assistant Conference in Wellington this week which gave the Virtual Assistant community of New Zealand a chance to connect in person and plan a direction for this young but very exciting and forward thinking industry.
Keynote speakers Justin Flitter and Hannah Samuel imparted much of their knowledge regarding social media and reputation branding. They were joined by a number of others representing fields that compliment the industry and the conference was sponsored by Xero, Private Box and BeMyVA.
I found the discussions and speakers inspirational and a certain buzz was felt in the room. Plans are in place to promote and further establish the industry and even a name change is on the cards, so watch this space.
Thank you to Debra Clark and her committee for all of the organising and a special thank you to Larissa Paris of Xero and John Palmer of BeMyVA for being judges and awarding me this special title.

Won by Julie Lassen of NZ Marriages, for winning the 'Win a Website' competition. Julie is a marriage celebrant in Christchurch and I am delighted to have had the pleasure of telling her of her win this morning. I look forward to creating an exciting new site for her very soon.
According to this year’s MYOB report, 68% of New Zealand companies are not represented on the web. If you consider that most people now Google when needing a service, that leaves a lot of companies missing out on customers – are you one of them?

A domain name is similar to having a telephone number registered to you (domain registration, e.g Outbox.co.nz) and then you need to pay the line charges (hosting) so that you can speak with others on the telephone system (internet).
Once you are connected, you can change the subject or add some information - on a website it’s called a 'Content Management System' (CMS).
Just like a phone line you pay for these as you use them and if they expire you can no longer use the service, on the web that means your site is no longer visible.
If you have reminders sent to you for renewal, do make a note of the date. Once any one of them expire your site cannot be seen and in the case of a domain name it becomes available for sale again - so don't miss those dates.
